On Saturday, October 27th, The Men’s Club visited what is now known as Oakridge Estates.  Some 80 years ago Barbara Stanwyck purchased a piece of property in the San Fernando Valley.  The property bordered on the north by Devonshire Blvd, on the east by Reseda Blvd, on the south by what is now Lassen, and on the west by what is now Wilbur.  On this property Ms. Stanwyck and Zeppo Marx, her agent and one of the Marx Brothers, built separate homes.  Additionally, a thoroughbred training track and ranch were added.  During this time period, Barbara and Zeppo called this the Marwych Ranch.

On Saturday, February 17, 2018, The Men’s Club visited the Santa Susan Depot Museum and Model Railroad display in Simi Valley.  Our docent, Curt, was very outgoing and added so much to the tour.  We were limited in time to two hours, but, I’m sure Curt could have gone all-day with the history and stories about the depot.

Valley Jewish Community Center goes to Washington

Woodland Hills, CA, September 12, 2016

Posted Friday, September 16, 2016

Valley Jewish Community Center (VJCC) announced today that Jerry Wayne, Executive Director of VJCC, has been asked to speak at a Congressional Briefing on the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) on September 21st in Washington, D.C. This briefing is sponsored by Solera Health, a National DPP integrator that connects patients, payers, and physicians with a new class of non-clinical healthcare providers who are preventing and managing chronic disease. Congressman Tom Reed (R-NY) will provide introductions and comments.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stringent requirements to achieve recognition status. Detailed data from the DPP programs ranging from the classes, participants and follow-up must be submitted to The Recognition Program (DPRP) Standards and Operating Procedures for evaluation. VJCC has met all of the requirements for the past two years. This designation is noted on the national registry.

At the briefing, VJCC, in its second year with full DPP recognition by the CDC will be representing all of the community-based programs in the United States that offer the Type 2 DPP to at-risk individuals. VJCC is proud to partner with Solera Health as they work in collaboration to expand access to the VJCC DPP program to the large population of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles.

Since the VJCC first began offering the DPP over 24 months ago, the organization has made considerable strides to improve the health of the San Fernando Valley community. The Community Center would like to express its gratitude to their Lifestyle Coach Cheri Neiman, for her dedication to helping people achieve their own personal goals and prevent this epidemic facing our nation.
